Confectioners from throughout Japan offering their signature sweets to the gods: Manju Festival/Rin Shrine

11 a.m. on April 19

Manju are traditional Japanese confectionery. These small steamed buns comprise a wheat-flour dough casing filled with adzuki bean paste or other filling. In honor of the memory of Lin Jingyin, who is said to have brought manju to Nara from China, a festival is held every year to pray for the prosperity of the confectionery industry. In the festival, confectioners from throughout Japan offer their prize sweets to the gods. After the ceremony, tea and manju are handed out for everyone to enjoy.

*Only religious service will be conducted this year.
