"Nara Sumi" ink making is well reputed as a traditional industry in Nara, and it still boasts 90% of its national production today.
On Sunday March 26th 2023, Nara Sumi event takes place at Nara City Information Center, where you can casually drop by anytime between 11:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. The master of ink making, Mr. Atsushi Nagano from Kinkoen takes you on a journey of Nara Sumi through demonstrations of ink-making and ink rubbing. You can also join the Gripped Sumi making experience anytime during the event (2,200 yen per person). No reservations required.
