Shoryaku-ji Temple 【しょうりゃくじ】

Shoryaku-ji Temple was founded in 992 by Kenshun, the son of Fujiwara no Kaneie, the first in a long line of regents, beginning under the rule of Emperor Ichijo. At the time of its original construction, Shoryaku-ji was said to have been a large temple complex, but the only buildings that remain standing today are the main hall, bell tower, and Fukuju-in. Following the path of the Bodaisen River's clear waters, a mossy stone path leads the way to the hidden magnificence of the residence of the monk's who inhabited the temple long ago. The autumn colors of this temple are so beautiful as to earn it the nickname, the "Village of Brocade."
