Some 3,000 lanterns glowing with light

※Unauthorized reproduction of images on this page is prohibited

During this festival, approximately 3,000 lanterns on the grounds of the Kasugataisha Shrine, donated by members of the aristocracy, warrior class, and general public over the past 800 years, are illuminated. The event takes place only on the nights of Setsubun (the last day of winter) in February and on the evenings of August 14 and 15. With stone lanterns arranged in an orderly line from the Ninotorii Shrine Gate to near the Main Shrine and hanging lanterns adorning the vermilion-lacquered corridors, the enchanting sight of the glowing lanterns resembles a scene from a dynastic picture scroll.
