Tsukigase, located in the eastern part of Nara City, is one of Japan's leading plum blossom spots. About 10,000 bright red and white plum trees spread along the Satsuki River valley, so it is called "Tsukigase Plum Grove" (Tsukigase Plum Valley). The Ume Matsuri (Plum Festival) is held around February and March every year. During the period, various events will be held at various places such as the Tsukigase Ume Museum, and food stalls and teahouses will be open, where you can enjoy such delicacies as plum ice cream and udon with pickled plum. It takes about 1 hour by car from central Nara to Tsukigase. If you take a bus, it takes about 1.5 hours to 1 hour and 50 minutes from JR/Kintetsu Nara Station.
