Nara Prefectural Museum of Art is located to the north of the Nara Prefectural Building, just in front of the Prefectural Culture Center.

The Nara Prefectural Museum of Art opened in March 1973, featuring a donation of Edo-period (1600-1868) Japanese paintings, ukiyo-e prints, and various crafts, to promote art and contribute to the cultural development of the prefecture's residents.

The museum has also collected works by artists with strong ties to the Nara region. Its current collection includes over 4,100 pieces, featuring paintings, crafts, sculptures, calligraphy, and materials on customs and manners, ranging from the Kamakura period (1185-1333) to the present day.

Additionally, the museum hosts various exhibitions and collaborates with international art museums, like the Hermitage Museum, to present joint exhibitions while showcasing exhibits related to Nara.
