This was the last stop, farthest to the east, on the ancient Silk Road. As such, Shoso-in Temple contains many marvelous treasures brought to Japan from as far away as India and Persia. Its robust but straightforward azekura architecture (in which triangular logs are interlocked) is an impressive sight. The Shosoin Repository was originally a storehouse of the Todaiji Temple, and it has been used for storing the treasures since the Nara period.
