At Yajushiji Temple, the Shusho-e New Year’s ceremony spans 14 days, beginning on January 1. During this ceremony, participants repent for sins from the previous year and offer prayers for national peace, bountiful harvests, and good fortune in the year ahead. The Kichijo Keka Hoyo, a mass of repentance, is solemnly performed for Kichijoten, the principal deity enshrined at the Temple. Additionally, a painting of Kichijoten from the Nara Period (710–794), recognized as a National Treasure, is revered as the Temple's primary treasure from January 1 to 3. Another painting of Kichijoten from the Heisei Period (1989-2019) is honored as the Temple’s principal treasure from January 4 to 15.
