Looking for things to do during your visit in Nara, after Sakura Cherry Blossom Season in May? If you are interested in culture, art, performing art of Japan, the annual event Takigi-O-Noh might be your thing.

Every May, Takigi O-Noh dance is performed over two days at Maiden (pavilion for the performance of ceremonial dances) and the Wakamiya Shrine Hainoya at the Kasuga Grand Shrine and the former site of the Nandaimon Gate at Kofuku-ji Temple.
Takigi O-Noh is regarded as the origin of Yagai Noh and Takigi Noh (forms of Noh theater performed outdoors), which are nowadays staged throughout Japan.

There will be morning and evening stages – the former is held at Kasuga Grand Shrine, and the latter at Kofuku-ji Temple. In particular, at the evening stage, you can enjoy the depth of Noh drama performed on a beautiful stage interwoven with nature surrounded by the flickering flames of torches brightening the night sky.

Performances on the day can be viewed from pay seats at all venues (tickets can be purchased on the day), and a standing-only area is also available only at the Kofuku-ji Temple event stages.
