Located in the heart of Naramachi, Goryo Shrine is highly revered as the "Goryo-san of Naramachi." The annual autumn festival, a cherished traditional event in Naramachi, is believed to have originated during the Heian period (794-1185). Initially a ritual to appease spirits and ward off disasters, it has evolved into the modern festival that prays for peace in the region. Every year, on October 13, the Mikoshi Togyo of the Honmiya Festival takes place. The deity moves from the main hall to the mikoshi, a divine palanquin. It is paraded through the parishioners' living areas, dividing the area into inner and outer circles every other year. Hence, it takes the god two years to visit all the areas.
