Hojo-e is a traditional Buddhist ceremony held at Kohfukuji Temple. It involves returning animals such as fish and birds to nature, a symbolic act of compassion and respect for all living creatures. This custom is based on the Buddhist idea of "Preventing killing," and it involves releasing and memorializing captured creatures.
A memorial service will be held at Hitokoto-Kannon-do Hall, adjacent to the Nanendo (Southern Round Hall). After the service, monks will chant the Sutra at the Sarusawa-ike Pond, where native fish species, such as minnows and striped goby, will be released into the water.
