Shohaku Art Museum

This museum exhibits works by three generations of Japanese painters: Uemura Shōen, Uemura Shōkō, and Uemura Atsushi.

※Unauthorized reproduction of images on this page is prohibited

The museum was established primarily by Kintetsu Railway Co., Ltd. (Kintetsu). Its collection is based on works donated by Japanese painters Uemura Shoko and Uemura Atsushi. The museum collects, preserves, and exhibits the works of Uemura Shōen, Shōko, and Atsushi.

The museum is situated on the site of the former residence of Saeki Isamu, the honorary chairman of Kintetsu Railway Co., Ltd. The former Saeki residence, located next to the museum, is a modern Japanese-style house that incorporates the techniques of sukiya architecture. Designed by Murano Togo, a master architect of the Showa era, it was built in 1965.

As a residential building designed by Murano Togo, one of the few remaining structures showcasing his unique designs, it holds exceptional cultural value. Furthermore, it is significant as the only building that can be explored from the inside.
