In commemoration of Empress Komyo offering kaya to pray for protection from epidemics, a ritual is held after the memorial service for the principal image, the Eleven-Headed Kannon Bodhisattva Standing Statue, a National Treasure. During this ritual, attendees pass through a large thatched hoop to pray for good health.
Lanterns are strung throughout the precincts, creating a magical atmosphere. Advance applications are required for the lantern prayer (2,000 yen each) and the lanterns (500 yen). For more information, please contact Hokkeji Temple.
