The annual Brush Festival occurs on the spring equinox. On this day, prayers are recited at the Brush Mound on the shrine grounds to express gratitude for improvements in calligraphy and worn-out old brushes. Old brushes brought to the shrine are burned on the goma altar. Other activities include brush and ink-making demonstrations, an old brush exchange, a brush market, and large-character calligraphy by high school students.
